SHIRAZ 2004
NOSE BAR REVIEW:

"What wine do sommeliers like to recommend? Their own! Carsten Migliarina has forsaken a life of watching others drink in order to make his own delicious and elegant shiraz, much of which he does, of course, drink himself. And very right and proper too - if I could make wine as tasty and more-ish as this, that is certainly what I would be doing as well so we must grab our share while we can - dark brooding black fruits and a creamy vanilla finish."

SHIRAZ 2005
FEINE WEINE:

Carsten’s philosophy is based on simplicity with the emphasis on working closer with his growers and finding the perfect grapes. Most of the wines are exported with only a small percentage being sold in South Africa’s top hotels and restaurants.

INTRODUCTION

Migliarina Wines was started in 2002 by Carsten Migliarina. After spending ten years in the catering industry and having worked as a sommelier at well known establishments such as Le Pont de la Tour in London and the Grande Roche in Paarl it was time to follow his dream to make wine.

Having worked in Europe (France, Germany and Romania) and South Africa (including two vintages at Mulderbosch and one at Ernie Els) Carsten arrived at a point where it was time to focus full time on Migliarina Wines.

Carsten’s philosophy is based on simplicity with the emphasis on working closer with his growers and finding the perfect grapes.

In the cellar keeping it simple is the cornerstone for the Migliarina style. Fermenting at a low pH and allowing malo-lactic fermentation to occur in barrel is the basis for ensuring that the wines are clean and fruit driven. Extended lees contact also gives the wines their creamy mouth feel and long lasting finish.

Most of the wines are exported to Europe and Canada with only a small percentage being sold in South Africa’s top hotels and restaurants.

Migliarina Wines is a young business, now in its fifth year of production. Carsten is on a constant quest to improve the quality of the wine. All wines are hand crafted and exceptional care is taken in preserving varietal and fruit character. With the help of family and friends Migliarina Wines is no longer just a dream but has become a reality.
